The Old Siam
"The Old Siam" depicts Thai village life when Thailand was known as Siam, when life is simple. There are 11 scenes in the series; Floating Market, Sunday Market, Rafting, Harvest, Paddy-Field, Rice Pounding, Rice Kneading, Picking Fruit, Picking Lotus, Fishtrap and Fishing. The paintings are distinctive with metallic color, embossed golden lines and vivid colors.
I started to paint the Old Siam in 2008 when I moved to Portland. At the beginning, I painted because I was missing my mom. She was also an artist who painted about Thai villagers. As years go by, I continue painting because it makes me happy. My painting is me, daring, bold, bright and expressive. Even Portland has been my home for 17 years, I am still missing Thailand, and it will always be my home no matter how long I have left.
